Residential and Hospitality Services System Status
RHS Information Services is continuing to work on the issue of
slow response in GroupWise. The problem is affecting some users and not
others. There are several factors involved in this situation.
One factor is the increasing number of staff who are connecting smart
phones and PDAs to their GroupWise accounts. These devices retrieve
mail differently from the native GroupWise client, and they are causing
an unprecedented heavy load on our servers.
We have found something in common for many, but not all users who
are having this issue. In many cases, the users experiencing poor
performance have a very large number of messages in their main Mailbox (inbox) folder.
If you have more than 500 items
in your main Mailbox folder, you could have performance problems. We
strongly urge anyone with more than 500 items in the main folder to
re-organize and/or delete messages. You can create personal folders to
organize your messages by date, subject matter, sender, department, or
any other method that works well for you. Please try reducing the
number of items in your Mailbox to see if this helps you.
Also, please keep your Trash and Junk Mail
folders cleaned out. If these folders contain a large number of items
it will slow down junk mail processing and deleting messages.
How do you know how many messages you have? If you highlight
Mailbox in the folder list, the number of messages is displayed in the
lower-right corner of the GroupWise client.
WARNING! If you plan
to move or delete a large number of messages, do it in smaller batches
of 100 messages or less. If you try to move or delete more it may take
a very long time and slow the system down for all RHS staff. Especially
if everyone reads this message and starts to clean up their mailbox at
the same time. ;-)
Thanks for taking time to read this message and working to clean
up your Mailboxes. We are still researching other solutions, but
limiting your Mailbox size will give you the best chance of improving
performance right away.
